How to Know When You Need to Visit a Women’s Health Doctor

June 24, 2022

There are a lot of things that women have to worry about when it comes to their health. From yeast infection to breast cancer, women always have to be on the lookout for any signs that something might be wrong. However, sometimes, it can be quite hard to know when exactly you should go and seek proper medical evaluation.

Outlined below are some of the signs that it’s time to arrange a visit with a women’s health doctor near you.

Unusual Vaginal Odor or Discharge

If you’re concerned about prolonged vaginal odor, especially if it’s accompanied by greenish, yellowish, or cheesy vaginal discharge; or itching or burning sensation, schedule a visit with your women’s health doctor. Be honest about these symptoms, even if the conversation makes you uncomfortable.  You could be dealing with a vaginal infection, which needs proper treatment.

Watery or bloody vaginal discharge, especially when accompanied by a foul (rotten meat) odor, is among the potential symptoms of cervical cancer, which apparently should also be checked out by a women’s health doctor.

Bump/s on Your Genital Area

A bump on your genital area isn’t necessarily a cause for concern, as it may be no more than an ingrown hair, but it could also be genital wart or herpes, either of which is sexually transmitted. To be sure, have it seen by a women’s health doctor.

Breast Changes

Unusual breast changes, particularly a lump, discharge, rash, redness, puckering, and/or dimpling of your breast skin, warrant proper assessment to confirm or rule out cancer.

Pain During Sex

Although, like all the others in this list, this issue can be quite hard to discuss, this is definitely worth talking to a women’s health doctor about, as this can have a significant impact on your sense of well-being.

Your doctor will carry out the necessary tests to get to the bottom of your problem. Hormonal imbalance is the major cause of vaginal dryness. In such case, your doctor may recommend hormone replacement therapy, lubricants, or vaginal estrogen.
